Jacobsville sandstone is a distinctive reddish-brown to white, sedimentary rock typically found along Lake Superior's southern shore, although I found this one along the shores of Lake Michigan. Formed roughly 1 billion years ago, this iron-rich sandstone was widely used between 1870 and 1915 as a premier building material for homes, churches, and businesses.
